XIAOMI 13 PRO CAMERA AND SPECS REVIEW

XIAOMI 13 PRO CAMERA AND SPECS REVIEW: Introducing the Xiaomi 13 Pro, the latest addition to Xiaomi’s top-tier camera phone lineup. Featuring a main camera with a massive sensor identical to that of last year’s Xiaomi 12S ultra plus, this phone is packed with a plethora of other exciting features. In this comprehensive review, we’ll delve into all that the Xiaomi 13 Pro has to offer.

Previously only available in China, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra was an impressive camera phone. However, the newly released Xiaomi 13Pro is an even more refined version of its predecessor and is now available globally. Featuring the same cutting-edge one-inch type sensor on its main camera, along with a new ultra-wide lens and telephoto zoom, this phone packs a punch. In addition, the Xiaomi 13Pro boasts a brighter OLED screen, a new chipset, and faster charging capabilities.

DESIGN AND OLED DISPLAY:

The Xiaomi 13 Pro brings a Sleek curved design, both the front and back panels taper into a thin aluminum frame, and the back is made of ceramic and quite glossy and a bit slippery. probably it’s the large square camera bump that is the most memorable design accent the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro are also the first globally released Xiaomi phones with ip68-rated Ingress Protection something we’ve been waiting for a while.

The Xiaomi 13Pro features a front-facing 6.73-inch curved LTPO OLED display with a 1440p resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass fixed protection. This screen is very similar to the one found on the 12S Ultra, with the exception of a boost in maximum brightness.

Using a manual slider, we measured the maximum brightness at around 530 nits, which can be further increased to 1250 nits in auto mode in bright conditions. With a high resolution of 522 PPI, this panel is exceptionally sharp, and as an OLED, it offers super deep blacks. Additionally, the display supports 10-bit color depth, as well as HDR10 Plus and Dolby Vision.

The Xiaomi 13Pro’s display offers highly accurate colors depending on the color mode you choose in the settings. As an LTPO display, the refresh rate is extra adaptive, offering a smooth 120Hz while interacting with the interface, and can dial down to as low as 1Hz to save energy depending on the on-screen content.

Additionally, the phone features an adaptive resolution option that dials down from QHD to full HD to save even more power. The device also boasts a stereo speaker setup with Dolby Atmos support, delivering good loudness and sound quality with great vocals and some bass.

STORAGE AND SYSTEM BASE

Storage-wise, the Xiaomi 13Pro comes with 256 or 512GB of onboard storage that is not expandable via MicroSD. The phone can be unlocked with an under-display optical fingerprint scanner that can also be used to launch an app or function as soon as the device is unlocked.

Running on MIUI 14, based on Android 13, the interface hasn’t changed much compared to previous versions, but it brings behind-the-scenes optimizations for better performance, including automatic compression for apps that are not actively used, and the option to turn off permanent notifications. The phone also features enlarged folders that save space on the home screen while remaining convenient to use.

CHIPSET AND BATTERY

The Xiaomi 13Pro runs on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is more powerful and power-efficient than the previous generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, supporting advanced memory technologies like UFS 4.0 and LPDDR5X RAM.

The phone delivers top-of-the-charts performance in CPU and GPU benchmarks, only slightly bested by Samsung’s overclocked chipsets. Impressively, the Xiaomi 13Pro maintains high and stable performance throughout prolonged stress tests, thanks to its excellent thermal management.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro boasts a powerful 4820mAp hour battery, which earned an impressive endurance rating of 115 hours in our proprietary tests, outperforming both the 12s Ultra and the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

The phone supports faster charging with a 120-watt adapter included in the box, which can charge the phone from 0 to 81 percent in just 15 minutes and to a full charge in a total of 22 minutes. Additionally, the phone supports 50-watt wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

CAMERA FEATURES CAPTURING AND VIDEOS RECORDING:

Moving on to the camera features, the Xiaomi 13 Pro features the same 50.3-megapixel main camera found in the 12s Ultra, equipped with a cutting-edge one-inch type IMX 989 sensor that allows for a naturally blurred background behind subjects.

The phone also boasts a new 3.2 times telephoto zoom for macro close-ups and an ultra-wide camera with autofocus, both equipped with a 50-megapixel Samsung jn1 sensor.
The Leica collaboration is back, offering a red theme in the camera menus and the ability to switch between Leica’s vibrant and authentic color modes on the fly. Notably, the phone did not become hot to the touch despite these advanced features.

By default, the Xiaomi 13 Pro shoots in Leica vibrant mode, resulting in photos from the main camera that are pleasing with rich detail, sharpness, high contrast, and saturated colors.

While the dynamic range is good, some fine details like foliage may appear over-processed with excessive sharpening. Alternatively, photos taken in Leica authentic mode exhibit different color tuning, resulting in a moodier look with less processing and a more natural rendition of foliage and greens.

The phone’s main camera also offers two times lossless zoom, which can be toggled in the viewfinder. Photos taken at this zoom level are decent, with less detail but still sufficient sharpness, noise, colors, contrast, and dynamic range.

There are several options available for taking portraits, with photos taken using the main camera delivering excellent-looking subjects, proficient separation, and likable background blur. By default, portraits are taken using the telephoto camera, which also produces impressive results with great-looking subjects and lovely bokeh.

Finally, regular photos taken with the telephoto camera at 3.2 times zoom exhibit plenty of detail and sharpness, high contrast, low noise, and punchy colors, with good dynamic range.

In addition to its zoom capabilities, the Xiaomi 13 Pro’s zoom camera doubles as a macro shooter, allowing it to focus from as close as 10 centimeters away. The close-ups captured with the telephoto camera are outstanding, with excellent detail, wide dynamic range, and vivid colors, making them some of the sharpest photos seen recently.

The ultra-wide camera is also capable of taking great photos, with better detail than expected for this type of camera and a natural-looking rendition. The noise is minimal, the contrast is good, the colors are accurate, and the dynamic range is wide.

In low-light conditions, the Xiaomi 13 Pro automatically applies its night mode processing, resulting in impressive photos. These nighttime images are among the best seen recently, with class-leading detail and overall rendition.

The dynamic range is impressively wide, with great proficiency in handling most highlights. The white balance is outstanding, and the colors retain a nice level of saturation. Additionally, the phone offers a dedicated night mode that produces similar results with slight improvements in contrast and dynamic range.

Overall, the primary camera on the Xiaomi 13 Pro delivers class-leading photos, with the only shortcomings being the average dynamic range and blown highlights.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro’s telephoto camera also serves as a macro shooter, with the ability to focus from as close as 10 centimeters away. The close-up shots taken with the telephoto lens are outstanding, with exceptional detail, dynamic range, and vivid colors.

The ultra-wide camera also produces great photos, with better-than-expected detail for this type of camera, natural-looking colors, minimal noise, good contrast, and wide dynamic range.

In low-light conditions, the phone’s automatic night mode processing produces impressive photos taken with the main camera, with class-leading detail and overall rendition, wide dynamic range, and outstanding white balance and color saturation.

The auto night mode photos taken with the telephoto camera also have a lot of detail, a wide dynamic range, and outstanding exposure and color saturation. The results of toggle night mode shots are more or less the same as the auto mode. Turning off the night mode results in photos that are darker with a lower dynamic range, but sometimes with more detail.

The automatic night mode photos from the ultra-wide camera are good, with a satisfying level of detail, low noise, saturated colors, and great dynamic range. The dedicated night mode sometimes improves the skies and dynamic range, but for the most part, you get the same results as the auto mode. The Xiaomi 13 Pro has a 32-megapixel front-facing camera, and while the contrast, colors, and dynamic range are great in selfies, the detail level is just average.

Moving on to video recording, the main camera can record up to 8K resolution at 24 FPS, with great quality, enough detail, low noise, and impressive dynamic range. The 4K clips from the primary camera are superb, with lots of detail, balanced processing, vibrant colors, good contrast, and excellent dynamic range.

The telephoto camera captures superb 4K videos with plenty of detail, accurate colors, wide dynamic range, and well-handled noise, and the 4K videos from the ultra-wide camera are also very good, just like the rest of the cameras.

The Xiaomi 13 Pro offers impressive video recording capabilities with excellent dynamic range, natural colors, good contrast, and plenty of detail. Electronic stabilization is available for the Main and Ultra-wide cameras, and it works well in low light.

While the Main Cam’s 4K videos are somewhat darker than expected with low dynamic range, the addition of night mode greatly improves exposure, dynamic range, and color saturation. The Telephoto camera’s low-light 4K videos are usable with enough detail, accurate exposure, colors, and dynamic range. However, the low light Ultra-wide videos are dark, noisy, and have a low dynamic range.

Conclusion:

The Xiaomi 13 Pro is a competitive flagship device, particularly when it comes to its display, fast charging, and camera performance. Although the selfie camera quality is average, and the UI lacks user-facing updates compared to past phones, the Xiaomi 13 Pro is still an excellent camera phone that’s worth recommending if you have the budget. If you’re looking for alternatives, the Vivo X90 Pro or Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra could be worth considering. Let us know your thoughts, and we’ll see you at the next Review!
