Motorola Edge 40 Pro

Images of Motorola Edge 40 Pro leaked, showcasing a striking resemblance to Moto X40

Motorola Edge 40 Pro Leaks: Last month, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro made an appearance on Geekbench featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Shortly after, it was also spotted on the Google Play Console, indicating that it could be the global version of the Moto X40 released in December.

This speculation seems to have been further solidified by recent renders and videos shared by Evan Blass, which appear to belong on the Edge 40 Pro’s page on Motorola.com. It’s worth noting that the phone will likely have a slightly different name in the US, appearing as the Moto Edge+ (2023).

One of the key features highlighted in the video is the 165Hz refresh rate of the 6.7″ display, which is a 10-bit OLED panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels (20:9) and curved sides. The phone is expected to be powered by the SD 8 Gen 2 chipset with up to 12GB of RAM, based on data from the GPC. The battery is likely to be a 4,600mAh power cell with 125W fast wired charging and 15W wireless.

The X40 (and likely the Moto Edge 40 Pro) is equipped with a 50MP main camera (1/1.55″ sensor, OIS), a 50MP ultra-wide camera (117°), and a 12MP zoom camera (2x). On the front, there is a 60MP selfie camera inside a centered punch hole. The phone also features stereo speakers with Dolby Audio and is water-resistant (rated IP68).

Given its high-end specs and features, it’s possible that the phone will be positioned as a premium device and could come with a higher price tag than some of Motorola’s previous offerings.

Another area that could be explored is the competition that the Edge 40 Pro will face in the market. With the release of devices like the Samsung Galaxy S23 and the iPhone 14 Pro, Motorola will need to offer compelling features and performance to stand out and attract buyers.

It’s also worth noting that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the production and release schedules of many smartphone manufacturers, and it’s possible that Motorola’s plans for the Edge 40 Pro could be affected as well. As such, the company may need to be flexible and adapt its plans as circumstances change.

There is currently no official word on when Motorola will globally unveil the Edge 40 Pro, though other models (such as a vanilla Edge 40) are expected to be released as well. However, without an X40 Pro, there may not be a follow-up to the Edge 30 Ultra.
