Samsung Introduces Auto Blocker: A Customizable Security Tool for Galaxy Users

Samsung Electronics has unveiled Auto Blocker, a cutting-edge security tool designed to enhance the protection of Samsung Galaxy devices in a way that aligns with individual lifestyles. Recently integrated into One UI 6, Auto Blocker offers users a suite of optional security measures, providing them with greater control and choice within the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem.

Dr. Seungwon Shin, EVP & Head of Security Team, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, stated, “At Samsung, we constantly strive to keep our users safe from security attacks, and with the introduction of Auto Blocker, users can continue to enjoy the benefits of our open ecosystem, knowing that their mobile experience is secured.”

One of Auto Blocker’s key features is its ability to prevent app installations from unauthorized sources, commonly known as sideloading. While sideloading can offer enhanced customization and control, Auto Blocker ensures that this feature is disabled by default. For users less inclined towards sideloading or extensive customization, enabling Auto Blocker can provide an extra layer of protection against social engineering attacks, such as voice phishing.

Auto Blocker also offers a range of additional controls, including the activation of app security checks, aiding in the detection of potential malware and preventing harmful commands and software installations via USB cable. This is particularly valuable in scenarios where someone gains physical access to a user’s device, such as when charging a phone at a public location.

Additionally, an update to Message Guard has been introduced, which effectively mitigates Zero Click attacks involving direct image messages harboring malicious code. Initially launched for messaging apps from Google and Samsung, Message Guard now extends its protective capabilities to popular third-party apps, granting users greater freedom in choosing the apps they can safely use.

Samsung continues to lead the industry in setting new security standards, and Auto Blocker is a testament to this commitment. By combining industry-leading security measures with user choice, Auto Blocker empowers customers to tailor their device’s security to their specific preferences. This latest addition to Samsung’s suite of security and privacy innovations further elevates the mobile experience for users throughout the Galaxy ecosystem.
