Huawei FreeBuds Pro 3 Review

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 3 Review: Premium Wireless Earbuds with Style and Substance

Huawei has recently launched its latest high-end true wireless earbuds, the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 3, priced at around $246. While they might not be as expensive as some of the top competitors like the Sony RoR, they still come with a substantial price tag.

I’ve had the pleasure of testing these earbuds extensively for over a week, and in this comprehensive review, we will delve into all the aspects of the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 3.

Design and Build Quality

The design of the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 3 closely resembles its predecessors, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The compact pebble-style case is not only visually appealing but also incredibly convenient to carry around in your pocket or bag. The plastic case, while not the most premium material, feels solid and sturdy, and the hinge is reassuringly robust. Retrieving the earbuds from the case is a breeze, thanks to their smooth surface.

I tested the silver Frost model, but there are also ceramic white and green variants available. The earbuds weigh just 5.8 grams each and come with four different sizes of skin-friendly silicon tips, ensuring a comfortable and secure fit. They are suitable for extended use, making them ideal for long listening sessions or workouts.

The IP54 water-resistant rating ensures that these earbuds can handle splashes and light rain, adding to their versatility.

Setup and Connectivity

Setting up the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 3 is a quick and hassle-free process. They offer easy pairing with your smartphone, and you can even connect them to two devices simultaneously. I had them connected to both my smartphone and laptop, and the connection remained stable, even in crowded public areas.

It’s worth noting that, as is common with Huawei devices, you won’t find the required app, Huawei AI Life, on the Google Play Store. You’ll need to download it from Huawei’s website. Once installed, the app provides seamless control over the earbuds, including battery life monitoring, device management, and noise cancellation settings.

Customizing touch controls is also possible, allowing you to fine-tune your experience. While some gestures can only be deactivated, others offer more flexibility, such as pinch and hold for cycling through noise cancellation modes or activating your voice assistant.

Audio Quality

The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 3 boasts an 11-millimeter dynamic driver, referred to as the Ultrain dual driver. They support high-res audio wireless streaming and codecs like LDAC Apex HD, delivering a premium audio experience that matches their price tag.

During my testing, I found the sound quality to be excellent across various music genres, from metal and rock to classical and jazz. While they performed admirably, I couldn’t discern all the finer audio details found in more expensive audiophile-focused earbuds. If you’re a discerning audiophile, you might prefer to invest in a dedicated high-end audio product.

The earbuds offer several audio presets, with the bass boost making a noticeable difference. These earbuds cater to a broad range of musical tastes, allowing you to enjoy your preferred sound profile.

Noise Cancellation

The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 3 features Intelligent Dynamic ANC 3.0, powered by a triple microphone setup. This technology adapts the level of noise cancellation to your environment, effectively blocking out unwanted sounds. In everyday scenarios, the noise cancellation works exceptionally well.

While it may not match the strength of some competitors in quieter settings, it excels in noisy environments, such as trains and busy streets. The noise cancellation also effectively combats wind noise, making these earbuds suitable for outdoor activities, even in windy conditions.

Call Quality

Huawei’s Pure Voice 2.0 technology ensures clear and distortion-free voice quality during calls. The environmental noise removal feature effectively filters out background noise, making your voice come through loud and clear, regardless of your surroundings. During testing in a simulated noisy environment, the earbuds impressively maintained call clarity, demonstrating their capability to handle diverse situations.

Battery Life and Charging

The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 3 offer a commendable battery life. With active noise cancellation enabled, the earbuds consume about 14% of power per hour, providing nearly 7 hours of continuous usage. The charging case replenishes the earbuds quickly, and wireless charging support adds convenience for users with compatible devices. Pros and Cons on the NEXT PAGE…
