Design and Build:

The Redmi 13C follows in the footsteps of its predecessor by not including wired earphones and a TPU case in the box. While this may be a disappointment for some users, it allows the phone’s new design to shine. The glossy camera section stands out, although it does attract fingerprint marks.

The matte finish on the rest of the rear helps to conceal fingerprints better. The phone features flat sides, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a headphone jack, a dual SIM and SD card tray, a mono speaker, one microphone, and a Type-C port – a notable upgrade from the micro USB port on the 12C. The absence of an IR blaster, a common feature in Redmi phones, may be a drawback for some users.

Display:

The Redmi 13C sports a 720p IPS LCD display with a 90 Hz refresh rate, a notable improvement from its predecessor. The U-shaped notch on the front marks a departure from the V-shaped notch on the Redmi 12C. Despite the budget-friendly nature of the phone, there are noticeable bezels around the screen, especially the chin.

While the display offers an acceptable viewing experience, it tends to have an oversharpened look, typical for budget phones. Visibility under direct sunlight may be a challenge. Nevertheless, the inclusion of a 90 Hz refresh rate adds a cool factor and is a definite upgrade from the Redmi 12C.

Performance:

Equipped with the Helio G85 processor, the Redmi 13C delivers a reliable performance, especially considering its price point. While the G85 is not the latest processor, it handles everyday tasks and casual gaming without significant issues. Asphalt 9 runs smoothly, with occasional frame drops that don’t significantly impact the gaming experience.

The phone excels in multitasking, and with different RAM configurations available, opting for the 6 GB or 8 GB variant is recommended for an optimal experience. For casual users, the Redmi 13C fulfills all requirements, although it may not represent a significant upgrade for those currently using the Redmi 12C.

Software and Features:

Running on MIUI 4 atop Android 13, the Redmi 13C lacks some popular Redmi features like second space, split-screen multitasking, and the app sidebar. While these omissions may disappoint some users, it’s essential to note that Redmi phones have had a mixed reputation with MIUI updates, with some users reporting issues after updates. While the reviewer didn’t encounter any such problems, potential buyers should be aware of this aspect.

Camera:

The Redmi 13C inherits the 50 MP main camera from its predecessor, and the selfie camera sees an improvement from 5 MP to 8 MP. The main camera impresses with vibrant, sharp, and colorful images, especially in well-lit conditions. However, the glossy finish on the camera section may be prone to fingerprint marks.
