Xiaomi 13T Pro Review – Reasons to Consider Before Buying

Introducing the Xiaomi 13T Pro, the newest addition to Xiaomi’s esteemed T series of smartphones. Building upon the success of its predecessors, the 13T Pro draws inspiration from the earlier Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro models. As with its predecessors, the “T” moniker signifies a focus on enhanced performance and extended battery life, with slight compromises in camera capabilities and design aesthetics to ensure an affordable price point.

In this review, I’ll cover everything from design and software to performance, battery life, and camera capabilities. So, let’s dive right in and explore the Xiaomi 13T Pro.

Design and Build Quality:

The Xiaomi 13T Pro boasts a design that is distinctly Xiaomi. It features a sizable 6.7-inch display with slim bezels, providing an immersive viewing experience. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, ensuring durability and scratch resistance. Moreover, this smartphone is IP68 water and dust resistant, making it suitable for everyday use, even in challenging conditions.

One notable design element is the textured vegan leather finish, which provides a soft and grippy feel, adding to the overall premium experience. However, the camera housing does protrude significantly from the back, making the phone wobble on flat surfaces. The Xiaomi 13T Pro comes in three color options: Alpine Blue with vegan leather, Black, and Metal Green, which feature glass backs.

Software Experience:

Xiaomi has made significant strides in improving its software experience, with MIUI 14 running on top of Android 13. Unlike the past, Xiaomi now promises four Android updates and five years of security updates, ensuring long-term support for the device.

Despite these improvements, MIUI still comes with some pre-installed third-party apps and Xiaomi’s own apps that you might not be able to remove without third-party assistance. However, MIUI offers a customizable experience, with features like a control center for quick access to toggles and smart home controls.

The phone’s security features include an in-display fingerprint sensor and facial recognition. The fingerprint sensor is quick and reliable, providing secure access to the device.

Storage Options:

The Xiaomi 13T Pro offers ample storage options, with choices of 256GB, 512GB, or a full terabyte of storage. While it lacks expandable storage, the phone supports dual physical SIMs and eSIM.

Display and Audio:

The smartphone features a massive 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2712 x 1220 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 446 pixels per inch. The display offers stunning visuals, with HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision support, delivering vibrant colors and sharp contrast. It also boasts a maximum brightness of 1200 nits and up to 2600 nits in high brightness mode, ensuring excellent visibility in all lighting conditions.

The Xiaomi 13T Pro’s stereo speaker setup delivers respectable audio output with good clarity and volume. Dolby Atmos support and an equalizer allow users to customize their audio experience. However, the phone lacks a headphone jack, opting for Bluetooth 5.4 for audio connectivity.

Performance and Gaming:

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 13T Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 Plus chipset, coupled with 12 or 16GB of RAM. Everyday performance is smooth and responsive, with apps launching instantly and no noticeable lag.

The device’s gaming performance is commendable, handling graphics-intensive games like Genshin Impact on the highest settings without significant frame drops. The dedicated gaming mode, complete with performance monitoring, makes it an ideal choice for mobile gamers. The cooling system, including a vapor chamber, ensures the phone remains cool during extended gaming sessions.

Battery Life and Charging:

The Xiaomi 13T Pro’s 5000mAh battery provides excellent battery life, easily lasting a full day of usage, even with gaming and camera usage. In addition, the device supports 120W fast charging, capable of fully charging the phone in around 20 minutes, making it convenient for quick top-ups.

However, it lacks wireless charging, which might disappoint some users, considering it’s a feature found in many flagship smartphones today.

Camera Capabilities:

The Xiaomi 13T Pro boasts a Leica-branded camera setup, including a 50MP primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 50MP telephoto shooter. The camera app offers a user-friendly experience, with easy access to various shooting modes and settings.

In well-lit conditions, the primary camera captures detailed and natural-looking photos, with minimal over-processing. The vibrant mode enhances colors without going overboard. Night mode helps improve low-light photography by reducing noise and enhancing details.

The ultra-wide-angle camera performs decently in good lighting conditions but struggles in low light. The telephoto lens is capable of delivering sharp photos up to 5x zoom, after which image quality deteriorates.

Video recording supports up to 8K resolution, though it’s limited to 24 frames per second at that level. Stabilization is reasonable, and audio quality is clear during video capture.

The 20MP front-facing camera offers good selfie quality, with pleasing skin tones and reasonable dynamic range. The portrait mode works well to separate the subject from the background.

Reasons to Buy the Xiaomi 13T Pro:

1. Stellar Performance: Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 Plus chipset and available with up to 16GB of RAM, the 13T Pro delivers a smooth and snappy user experience, making it a powerhouse for multitasking and demanding applications.

2. Exceptional Display: The 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a high refresh rate of 144Hz and HDR support offers vibrant colors, sharp contrast, and smooth visuals, ensuring an immersive viewing experience.

3. Impressive Battery Life: Equipped with a generous 5000mAh battery, the 13T Pro provides all-day battery life, even with heavy usage. Quick 120W charging further ensures you spend less time tethered to an outlet.

4. Capable Camera System: The Leica-branded camera setup offers versatile photography options, with a 50MP primary sensor, 12MP ultra-wide lens, and 50MP telephoto lens. It excels in various lighting conditions and modes, including low-light and portrait photography.

5. Ample Storage Options: With choices of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of internal storage, you have plenty of space for apps, media, and files. This extensive storage capacity is particularly beneficial for power users.

6. Long-Term Software Support: Xiaomi commits to providing four Android updates and five years of security updates, ensuring your device remains up-to-date and secure for years to come.

Reasons to Consider Before Buying:

1. No Wireless Charging: The absence of wireless charging may disappoint users who have grown accustomed to this convenience in modern smartphones.

2. Limited Camera Bump: The prominent camera bump may cause the phone to wobble on flat surfaces, potentially leading to stability issues when using the device while it’s on a table.

3. MIUI and Pre-installed Apps: MIUI, while improved, still comes with some pre-installed third-party apps that may not be removable without third-party assistance. This can clutter the user experience.

4. Design Aesthetics: While the vegan leather finish on the Alpine Blue model adds a unique touch, the plastic frame may not exude the premium feel that some users expect from flagship devices.

5. No Expandable Storage: The absence of a microSD card slot means you’re limited to the internal storage capacity you choose at purchase. This may be a consideration for users who regularly require additional storage.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the Xiaomi 13T Pro offers an attractive package for users seeking flagship-like features without breaking the bank. It combines a premium design, a stunning display, powerful performance, and a versatile camera system. While there are minor drawbacks like the lack of wireless charging and some pre-installed apps, the device’s overall value and long-term software support make it a compelling choice in the mid-range flagship segment.

The Xiaomi 13T Pro represents a great balance between affordability and performance, making it a strong contender in the competitive smartphone market. If you’re in the market for a feature-packed smartphone that won’t drain your wallet, the Xiaomi 13T Pro is definitely worth considering.
