Google India Confirms The Launch Of A New Pixel Phone On May 11th, With Availability On Flipkart

It appears that the Google Pixel 7a is set to launch at Google I/O 2023 on May 10, as suggested by leaks and rumors. Recently, Google India confirmed on Twitter that “the latest phone engineered by Google” is launching on May 11.

The phone will be available on the Indian Amazon competitor Flipkart on the same date. The tweet includes a blurred-out image of a phone that seems to match the Google Pixel 7a renders that have been leaked so far.

Although the tweet does not specifically mention the Pixel 7a, it is highly likely that the phone shown in the image is the Pixel 7a, given that it appears to be a new phone that has not been seen before, and it is blue, which matches previous leaks.

This official confirmation from Google India is the first indication from the company about the Pixel 7a. The budget phone is expected to launch right after Google I/O, and the announcement itself may be made during the developer conference. There may also be announcements about AI, Android 14, and other hardware, such as the Google Pixel Tablet and the Google Pixel Fold.

The May 11 launch date mentioned by Google India aligns with recent leaks, indicating that the phone will be available for purchase in all markets right after its purported Google I/O reveal.

There isn’t much left to be revealed about the Pixel 7a, as leaks have already provided many details. It is almost identical to the Google Pixel 7, with the exception of being slightly smaller and having larger bezels.

The phone is expected to have the same Tensor G2 chip and camera setup as the Pixel 7. If rumors of the $500 price tag for the Pixel 7a are true, it may not be as appealing to buyers as its predecessor, the Pixel 6a, considering that the flagship Pixel 7 is frequently on sale for a similar price.
