Google Showcases Pixel Fold In NBA-Themed Ad Ahead Of Anticipated Launch

A YouTube advertisement showcasing the Pixel Fold has emerged before its expected reveal at Google I/O today. The video, which remains unlisted, includes several NBA and WNBA stars, comedian Druski, and several close-up shots of the Pixel Fold in everyday scenarios, as reported by 9to5Google.

The advertisement, named “Google Pixel x NBA: The Greatest Watch Party,” was shared by the official Google Pixel account via Twitter last night. However, the tweet advised readers to “check back in tomorrow,” indicating that Google released the link prematurely. Nevertheless, the tweet also features a photograph of MVP Joel Embiid holding the Pixel Fold, so it is best not to dwell on the matter too much.

In addition to showcasing the design of the Pixel Fold from multiple angles, the video also exhibits some of its functionalities. The video features several instances of the hinge and bezel movements, revealing the Fold’s closed, fully open, and partially open positions on a desk at a 90-degree angle. The camera feed demonstrated during a simulated video call with Giannis Antetokounmpo shows how seamlessly the Pixel Fold can switch between the internal and external displays.

However, the video does not provide any details regarding the device’s specifications. A reliable source, Roland Quandt, claims that the inner display is an OLED with a size of 7.6 inches (2208×1840, 379 ppi), while the outer display is an OLED with a size of 5.8 inches (2092×1080, 408 ppi). A screenshot from the “Google Pixel x NBA: The Greatest Watch Party” ad depicts the Pixel Fold being utilized in regular circumstances.

Google and the NBA have a well-established partnership. In the past, the search giant developed the Pixel Arena, a virtual stadium where users could experience NBA games. Moreover, the 2023 NBA Playoffs are being “presented by Google Pixel.” Google has previously collaborated with the basketball association on advertising campaigns, such as the promotional video for the Pixel 7 released in October.
